This motion allowed the use of AVC/H.264, but the Motion Picture Experts Group (MPEG) has since drafted resolutions that sought to limit its use to some extent: to ensure that the use of AVC/H.264 does not lead to obsolescence of the high-profile MPEG-2-based DVD format, and that the AVC/H.264 specification does not require the use of either MPEG-4 AVC/H.264-based Simple Profile or MPEG-4 AVC/H.264-based Main Profile or Main Level Profile.
