Best oil filter for synthetic oil use
Switching to full synthetic 5W-30 long-life on my Golf. Does the filter matter more with synthetics, or is any decent one fine? Want something that holds up for 15-20k km intervals.

Synthetics flow better and stay cleaner longer, but a good filter still needs strong media to trap fine particles over extended drains- paper-only cheap ones can load up faster and restrict flow. I run long intervals and prefer filters rated for extended service. Recently used one from https://elartcom.eu/categories/oil-filters-23 - they carry filters designed for VW long-life specs, with synthetic-blend or high-efficiency media in some. Chose one with larger capacity and good bypass valve. Oil analysis at 18k km showed very low wear metals, filter still holding strong. Makes the long drain more confident. If you're extending intervals, pick from their better-spec ones- worth it for engine protection.
