Another great feature for this electronic drum kit is the ability to manually focus on the most prominent drum head at any time. There are kits for all sorts of playing styles including breaks, power, tech, acoustic, modern or just about any other aesthetic that you can think of. Playing styles include any combination of kicks, snares and toms. There are kits for various low drum toms including 5A, 6A, 8A, 10A, 12A, 14A and 16A. Each tom has its own set of settings and you can choose between three different sounds on each tom. There are also nice little snares for the hi hats and various timbres for the cymbals, ride cymbal and hi-hat. If you wanted to use just the maracas, there is a kit with that alone.
In the grid editor you can split your sounds into two different groups. The first one is for the kick drum and the second for the snare. Kick drums are fully voiced on the first kit, while the snare sounds are merely ping ponged. There are three different kits with three different groups for your sounds. You can use groups however you’d like. You can make them all follow your active swing note, you can make them all get out of sync or you can make all the groups or one of the kits lead by a swing note. There is even a way to transpose the samples up and down so that you can play the samples all over the place or make them more difficult. Another nice feature of EZD3 is that you can also assign your own sounds to the sound shelf as presets. EZD3 also has a collection of additional snares, kicks and cymbals. The grids are also well engineered to be easy and natural to play and arranging them is done in the simple drag and drop style. There are three array styles and two alignments to choose from. The FFT Grid Editor is a separate window that allows you to check out your frequency and amplitude plots of every preset to get a more visual sense of what the sounds are really doing.
