People can discuss the proposal and access drawings in the physical development and planning department at any one of the the public hearings, which will be held on the north and south sides of campus starting at 4:30 p.m. at the Alan Mason Galleries.
During the past two years, the Magic Campus group has organized more than 200 meetings with the university, community members, students, faculty and alumni. The UA released a conceptualized master plan in February 2013 that included a six-floor central building, which would be connected to the existing main campus and could replace the Fleming School.
A key element of the creative-classification model is the university's "classrooms" in its "Schools of Design, Arts and Humanities, and Engineering," which could be turned into a virtual "Magic Campus" for visual-arts, music, and engineering students. In 2011, 7,000 undergraduate students studied at the Magic Campus, according to William Frey, a demographer with the nonprofit Southern Methodist University Center for Public Policy, which uses the year-old classification of what it calls the 4th Life Sciences in its analysis of the impact of higher education on jobs.
The M stands for the idea of a model based on the magic of a business," said Ian Cates, UIUC's chief information officer. The different types of magic the university is hoping to incorporate: playful learning, investigative inquiry, creative expression and social entrepreneurship. d2c66b5586
